Gloria Diaz Obituary

GLORIA DIAZ
You have been enlightened by Christ.
Walk always as children of the light and keep the flame of faith alive in your hearts.
When the Lord comes, may you go out to meet him with all the saints in the heavenly kingdom.
(Catholic Baptismal Rite)

Gloria Diaz, 82, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 15, 2015 in McAllen. Daughter of the late Ignacio Vela and Andrea Zamora Vela, Gloria is survived by her devoted husband: Heberto M. Diaz, Sr.; her children: Monsignor Heberto Diaz, Jr., Fernando Diaz, and Marissa Diaz; her sister: Esperanza Guerrero, six grandchildren and three great-grand-children.

A quiet soul and generous spirit, Gloria developed a variety of activities and interests. She enjoyed camping, traveling and cooking. Always cognizant of the holiness of the human person, she valued relationships with family and friends. This was especially evident in the manner in which she lived her vocation of married life. Her love and commitment to Heberto, her husband of fifty-five years, inspired in him such passionate devotion that he visited Gloria faithfully every day of her years at Las Palmas Nursing Center.

Above all else, Gloria was a woman of faith and service. She was a charter member of the area's Catholic Daughters of America. She contributed time and talent through her work with the Ladies' Club of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Her ministry as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion modeled for others a deep reverence for the Body and Blood of Christ, while her service as a catechist engendered respect and longing for God among youth of all ages. Enlightened by Christ, Gloria kept the flame of faith alive in her heart and earnestly shared its light with her children.

The Diaz family extends its thanks to the health care providers who took care of Gloria, and to the many people who have prayed for and supported them throughout her illness.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in McAllen.
