McALLEN - Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Olga Guerra Menchaca, 83, went to meet our heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Lifecare Hospital.
She was born April 27, 1931 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas to the late Federico Guerra of the San Roman Ranch in Starr County and Olivia Moreno de Guerra of El Charco in the state of Tamaulipas.
Olga was predeceased by her loving husband, Fidel Menchaca. As Matriarch of the Guerra family, she survived all of her siblings: Guillermo Guerra, Blanca Ontiveros, Hector Guerra, Guadalupe Guerra, Imelda Salinas and infant sibling Marianela Guerra.
She is survived by her four children; Federico (Diana) Guerra, Adriana (Dr. Samuel) Garcia, Francisco (Mardy) Guerra, Alma (Bill) Crawford; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Surviving her as well, her loving and faithful caregivers, Lilia Gutierrez and Elvia Coronado.
Proverbs 31:10-12 ~ An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Olga received her Cosmetology license at the early age of 14. She owned a beauty shop in Reynosa and Valle Hermoso. She then married her first husband Francisco Guerra, Sr., the father of her four children and moved to McAllen, TX in 1951. Eventually she became a single mother of four children working various jobs to support them. She remarried in 1972 and worked together with her husband Fidel managing several coffee shops, the last one being the Hidalgo County Court House in which they retired in 1994.
Proverbs 31:20 ~ She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy.
Olga was a volunteer for the Food Bank, Salvation Army, "La Liga del Hogar." She served the community diligently.
Proverbs 31:26 ~ She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Olga was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a true and faithful servant in the ministry of teaching the word of God to children. Her knowledge of the Word was so instilled in her daily life that she could recite any scripture from memory and heart.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday, June 26, 2014 with a prayers service being held at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. A Chapel service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 27, 2014 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
Serving as Pallbearers are Sammy Garcia III, Frankie Guerra III, B.J. Crawford Jr., Matthew Garcia, Aaron Guerra, Armando Gamboa, III.
