Teresa Cantu Galvan

McAllen - Teresa Cantu Galvan, 99, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Las Palmas Healthcare Center of McAllen. Teresa was born October 15, 1916 in China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She is the daughter of the late Timoteo and the late Angelita (Rodriguez) Cantu. She was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Estevan Galvan in 1986; two brothers: Juan Cantu and Nicolas Cantu and two sisters: Mary Cantu Corona and Aurora Cantu Martinez.

Teresa moved from China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the valley at a very young age. She resided in Pharr and McAllen for 96 years. She attended and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in McAllen and was a vocalist at both the Catholic Church in Pharr and First Divino Redentor in McAllen. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the original Divino Redentor Methodist Church on 16th St. in McAllen. She was very generous to everyone in need. She sacrificed much to raise her children and to help raise her grandchildren. Since a very young age she was a devout Christian. She emphasized reading, education and a love of God to her children.

She is survived by her children: Angelita Galvan Freeman of Santa Ana, CA, Sam (Maria Elena) Galvan of McAllen, Felipe (Mary) Galvan of Alamo, Timoteo (Gabi) Galvan of Mission, Diana (Noel) Galvan Rodriguez of Chicago, IL, Judy Muñiz Guillen of Edinburg, Nico Muñiz of McAllen and Norma Corona of Chicago; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and her dear devoted family friend and neighbor, Inez Berrones of McAllen.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday, February 10, 2016 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10:00 am Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
