Robert Luis Gonzalez, 65, passed away on April 23, 2024, in Mission, Texas. He was born on May 4, 1958, in McAllen, Texas.
Robert was a simple man who lived life on his own terms. His father introduced him to the trade of an electrician at a young age. After attending St. Edwards for 2 years, he moved to Houston where he obtained his Journeyman Electrician license and decided to build his life there. He spent 42 years in Houston before retiring and returning to the Rio Grande Valley. Robert was known for his humble and generous nature, always willing to help those in need. He had a deep love for animals and was fortunate to have an emotional support service dog by his side.
A man of strong religious convictions, Robert credited his faith for helping him through his battles with cancer. Despite facing the disease for ten years, he continued to fight bravely, undergoing radiation therapy at Texas Oncology until the very end.
Robert is survived by his partner, Jessica Marie Saenz, his emotional support dog, Chikilin Gonzalez, his children, Jaime Luis Gonzalez (Sherry Van Pelt) and Jessica Leia Gonzalez (Maria T. Hernandez), as well as his siblings, Jose Gonzalez (Juanita Torres), Gloria A. Gomez (Ramiro Garza), Raul Gonzalez, and J.J. Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Salvador Gonzalez, and his mother, Lydia Alaniz Gonzalez.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed working on his 2014 Mustang and tending to plants both at home and in Houston. He had a knack for gardening and caring for animals.
