Pastor Dionisio “Nicho” Hernandez

Hidalgo - Pastor Dionisio “Nicho” Hernandez entered eternal rest on Friday, June 7, 2019 in McAllen at the age of 72. He was born on, October 9, 1946 in Sola de Vega, Oaxaca, Mexico.  The son of the late Gumercindo and the late Tomasita (Ortiz) Hernandez.

In 1961, he began his ministry in music, being a founding member of the Christian quartet “Los Mensajeros del Rey”.  In 1968 he arrived in Reynosa, invited by Pastor Benjamin Pina to be part of Templo Bethel where “El Cuarteto Bethel,” was born.  In 1972, he married Blanca D. Reyes.  After a few years living and working in the ministry along with his wife, he returned to the valley to work in the ministry at “Iglesia Congregacional Bethel” in Reynosa as a youth pastor.  During this same year, he formed part of “Alianza Ministerial Evangelica de Reynosa” and during several years he formed part of the board of this committee.  In 1981 he became the pastor at Templo Bethel and continued this role for his last 38 years.  During this time, he continued as pastor and collaborated with different ministries in Reynosa and in the Rio Grande Valley.

He leaves behind his wife: Blanca D. Hernandez, three children: Aaron (Xochitl) Hernandez, Blanca (Jaime) Garza and Dennis Hernandez; a sister: Oliva Arreola; grandchildren Jonathan, Paulina, Rebekah, Valeria, Victoria and Grace; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, June 10 2019 and a Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Iglesia de la Comunidad in Hidalgo. Last rites and interment will follow at Hidalgo City Cemetery in Hidalgo.
