Mission, Texas ~ Jose Leocadio Contreras,85, entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 1, 2019 surrounded by his family in Edinburg. "Cayo" as he was lovingly known by his family and friends was born on December 9, 1933 in Poteet, Texas to Emilio and Guadalupe (Gonzalez) Contreras. "Cayo" lived in Mission for most of his life. He was a welder by trade. Cayo enjoyed planting, fishing, tending to his animals at his 10 acre ranch. He loved spending time with his family and sisters. Cayo liked to joke with family and friends. Cayo proudly served his country with the United States Army.
Cayo was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are is wife-Estela Garza Contreras; His children- Jose L. Contreras,Jr., Martin Contreras, Maria G. Contreras, Ricardo Contreras, Marylou Contreras (Mendoza); Siblings- Delfina Ledesma, Hilario (Lalo) Contreras, Maria Magdalena Pardo; Grandchildren- Jesse, Andy, Joe, Anthony, Martin,Jr., Jose III, Ismael, Jessica, Joanna Ivette; Great Grandchildren- Audrey, Madison, and Aleena.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Rivera Funeral Home,1901 Pecan Blvd. from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 12:30 PM at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will be at 2:00 PM at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
