Lucia H. Rodriguez

Edinburg ~ Lucia H. Rodriguez, 83, entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019 surrounded by her family at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. She was born on Friday, December 4, 1936 in McAllen, the daughter of Trinidad and Lilia (de la Rosa) Hernandez. Lucia started working at a very young age when her parents would travel up north to work in the fields and she continued working in local packing sheds as she grew older. She was a kind and generous soul, always helping friends when she could. To her family she was “Tia Chia”. She never had children of her own but she was a second mother to many of her numerous nieces and nephews, great and grand. She was crafty, making all sorts of items from can tabs and aluminum cans as well as many crochet pillows, hats and doilies. She loved her plants and would spend time caring for them on sunny days. Many of us would visit and watch the hummingbirds fluttering around the feeders as we sat talking on the porch listening to her tell stories about when she was young. She lived a simple life and will be dearly missed by all her family and the many friends she made. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years: Joaquin Rodriguez of Edinburg; brothers and sisters: Maria E. Hernandez of Edinburg, Isabel H. (Abelardo†) Chavez of El Paso; Juan (Elvia) Hernandez of Edinburg, Felipe (Eulalia) Hernandez of Edinburg, Yolanda Estela Hernandez of Edinburg and David (Nora) Hernandez of Edinburg; numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm Monday, December 30, 2019 at Capilla San Jose Catholic Church, 4101 N. Flores St. in Edinburg with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 31, 2020 at Capilla San Jose Catholic Church 4101 N. Flores St., in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 1701 E. Richardson Rd. in Edinburg. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
