Alberto Pio Felici, M.D. – Obituary
McAllen, TX – Alberto Pio Felici, M.D., age 87, passed on June 11, 2024, in McAllen, TX.
He was born on March 17, 1937, to Aldo Maria Adelchi Pio Felici and Amalia Mercedes Alonso Felici in his childhood home in Mexico City. Dr. Felici was raised there, where he was surrounded by family and friends and gained a love and interest in medicine. He attended the Academia Militaricada México. He went on to pursue his passion in medicine and attended medical school at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he graduated in 1961. He completed his social service in Villahermosa, Tabasco where he was the Assistant Director of the Hospital Infantil de Villahermosa where he proudly served the rural community. He moved to San Antonio, Texas where he completed his internship and residencies at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Joe and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. After completing his studies, he served in the military for 2 years at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. In 1971, he returned to San Antonio, TX to continue practicing pediatric medicine. He then moved to McAllen, TX and began his work as a pediatrician with Pruitt D. Terrell, M.D., and James W. Caldwell, M.D. In 1982 and 1983 Dr. Felici was the Chief of Staff at McAllen Medical Center.
One of his greatest achievements was opening his own pediatric practice, Felici Pediatric Clinic, in McAllen, TX, where he worked alongside Ernesto H. Ramirez, M.D., and Maria E. Quinteros, M.D.
Though native to Mexico, his passion for other cultures led him to travel all around the world. He was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast. You might have been able to catch him from time-to-time cruising around town on his various motorcycle. Considering his love of travel and vehicles, it is no wonder he acquired his private pilot license on July 3, 1987. When he wasn’t flying or cruising in his cars, you could find him enjoying his boat on the waters of Laguna Madre in South Padre Island, Texas. Dr. Felici had a captivating presence that was hard to ignore. If he wasn’t devotedly sharing his wisdom, he was playfully cracking jokes. As a man of many interests, he found the most joy in his life serving the children and families of the Rio Grande Valley as a pediatrician, which he was grateful to be able to do for so many years. He was a passionate and skilled practitioner who cared deeply for his patients. He was gentle enough to gain the trust of his pediatric patients but bold enough to advocate for their needs. After dedicating his life to his patients for nearly 50 years, Dr. Alberto P. Felici retired in 2010.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aldo Maria Adelchi Pio Felici and Amalia Mercedes Alonso Felici; his brothers, Aldo Felici, Arturo Felici, Juan Bautista Felici, and Aldo Arturo Felici; his sisters, Maria Guadalupe Felici Flores and Rosandra Felici Trejo; and his son, Albert Guadalupe Felici.
He is survived by his siblings, Amalia Felici Gluesing and Carlos Antonio Felici; children, Aldo Gonzalo Felici, Lilia Felici, Juan Carlos Felici, Yolanda Felici Pequeño, Joseph Henry Felici, Shannon Felici Peña, Crystal Felici Visintine, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
