Alberto Gonzalez Guajardo Obituary

Alberto had a gift for showing his love through action. He was a devoted family man who employed his family members in his small businesses, tutored and mentored the younger generation, and traveled to be present wherever he was needed. His love knew no bounds.

Alberto González Guajardo was the sixth of seven children born on July 23, 1952, in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México. After his father Ramiro González Padrón passed away when Alberto was only two years old, Maria Guajardo Lozano, his mother, did the best she could to raise all seven of her kids with help from her father and her brother Porfirio. Alberto was a very good and obedient boy. Alberto would help his mom get tortillas, harvest fruit from their fruit trees and defeathered the chickens to make stew. His intelligence was notable even as a young boy. He made his first chess set out of bottle tops. He was painfully shy in school but his excellent grades allowed him to pursue advanced academics. He attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he would later recount how he had narrowly escaped the massacre of protesting students by being at the very end of the protest.  He graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico of Matamoros as an Industrial Chemical Engineer. The friends he made there, who lovingly called him Betico, remained his friends until the end.

One of Alberto’s many nuggets of wisdom was to say yes first, and figure out the details later. He was offered a job in Michoacan as a computer teacher teaching the newest computer programming language at the time, FORTRAN and was awarded Teacher of the Year for his efforts. He was an algebra and trigonometry professor at a teachers college and taught classes aimed for university professors. Around that stage in his life, on a fateful trip back home, he attended a wedding party on a whim and danced with a beautiful lady that would later become the love of his life, Claudia Zoraida. Alberto moved to Cosamaloapan, Veracruz and it was there that he had his first job as a principal at the Secundaria Tecnologica CECYT 47. Now that he had a good job it was time to commit and start a family. He came back to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and married Claudia.

Alberto was a devoted family man providing for his wife and his three daughters, Claudia, Alejandra and Dulce. He held different jobs in both Matamoros and Brownsville, Texas. He worked in the automotive maquiladoras of Kemet de Mexico, Deltronicos de Matamoros, and Pebac. In his lifetime he opened three restaurants and his own maquiladora, Alpha Assemblies through which he employed his family members. He accepted the principal position at CONALEP high school and vocational school. Eventually, Alberto realized that the family needed to permanently live in one country for stability and in his most generous and brave choice, moved the family across the border, thus erasing the gains he had made in his career, in the hopes that it would propel his daughters further in life than he himself had accomplished.

Alberto was truly a self-made man. He created Alpha Assemblies Inc. and manufactured parts for Radio Shack, through his work at Breed Technologies he became a project manager and liaison to the maquiladoras on the Mexican side of the border. He became a consultant and created Idehate, a workshop for maquiladora supervisors. Nonetheless, he always said his most important job was that of father and could oftentimes be found at the dinner table helping his daughters on their math homework, at the library with his daughters in tow or sitting at a restaurant table managing his youngest daughter’s blossoming career. All his endeavors were in service to his family.

As his daughters grew up and had families of their own Alberto evolved into the latter part of his life, a loving grandfather and a healer. It didn’t matter the distance. He would travel between Houston and McAllen whenever he was needed. Alberto could always be called upon to babysit, pick up kids from school, attend a grandparents day function at school, and even to volunteer as an afterschool chess club sponsor.  And because his role as grandfather required more mobility, he had to once again reinvent himself. Drawing on his lifetime curiosity of all things metaphysical, Alberto trained as a biomagnetism healer. Even in his last days, Alberto felt an urgency to heal people.

Alberto passed away peacefully on September 9th after a courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents Ramiro González Padrón and María Guajardo Lozano, and his brothers and sisters, Ramiro, Mártha, Hector, Juan and Lidia González. He is survived by his widow, Claudia Zoraida Aldáz, his daughters Claudia Zoraida (Eric) Salazar, Alejandra Melissa González, and Dulce María (Edgar) Soto, his six grandchildren and his sister Maria de los Ángeles Gonzalez Guajardo. The ceremony will be held Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 3 pm at Rivera Funeral Homes, 1901 Pecan Blvd Suite B, McAllen, TX.
