Albino Elmo Cantu

Edinburg ~ Albino Elmo Cantu went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 12th, 2021. He was surrounded by loved ones and covered in prayer. 

Elmo is survived by his son, Elmo Cody Cantu and granddaughter Maya Cantu; daughter Danielle Florez, Christopher Florez (husband), and grandson Evan Florez; son Justin Cantu, Lisa Cantu (wife), and grandson Ryan Cantu; his former spouse and mother of his children, Monica Cantu, sister Celeste Cantu, brothers Chicho and Mark Cantu, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Narciso and Guadalupe Cantu. 

He was born in Zapata Texas on June 20th, 1959 and was raised in Rio Grande City. He enjoyed being out on the ranch tending to his cattle, and he loved hunting with his sons and nephews. Elmo made the best barbecue and will be remembered in his cowboy hat.

Elmo had a vivacious personality that was extremely captivating; he left every encounter with a sincere friendship. He had a way of bringing words of encouragement and wisdom in any situation, and could make you laugh uncontrollably with his animated storytelling and practical jokes. 

Grandpa Elmo doted on his 3 grandchildren. He found such comfort and peace in hearing their voices and being surrounded by them in his final moments. He will be missed but we have hope in the Lord Jesus Christ that we will see him again. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 15th at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen on Pecan and Bicentennial from 5 pm - 8 pm with prayer services and rosary from 6 pm -7 pm. Donations can be made to the Comfort House Hospice Center in McAllen in memory of Elmo.
