Alfred John Olivarez "A.J." Obituary

Alfred John Olivarez (A.J.)
April 19, 1981 – September 15, 2025

A.J. 44, of McAllen, Texas son, brother, grandson, Uncle, cousin, husband and father passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, in his home in McAllen.

A.J. was born on Easter Sunday in the (former) McAllen General Hospital. He attended Rayburn Elementary, Morris Middle School and graduated from Memorial High School. He also attended South Texas College and Wharton College. He was planning to complete 12 college hours with Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) on-line to complete his bachelor’s degree (a goal he never let go of).

A.J. moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco at 30 years old and married Marianna Romero Gonzalez. They had Sheraton John (Shary) (8 years old), Jayden Alfred (Jady) (7 years old) and Mitchel Sebastian (Seby) (2 months old). A.J.’s family visited them often. He was so happy there with his Guadalajara family. A.J. was such a great father to his boys. He cared for their every need. Mariana’s beautiful family surrounded them all with so much love.

A.J. returned to McAllen this year to work and prepare for his family to join him to live in United States. This was always “the plan” that the family would come to United States to finish their education and to experience United States. A.J. talked every night (FACETIME) with the boys and Mariana. He would say that baby Seby knew his voice, and this made him very happy. A.J. went to Guadalajara in July with his mother for the birth of his son and to reunite with his boys. He missed the return flight to Reynosa and he was so happy and said to his mom, “Great! Let’s go pick up the boys and play in the pool with them another day!”

He was very connected to his father and loved him deeply. He often referred to him as his best friend. They worked together his entire adult life. He loved his mom and would often say, “Mom, I am a grown man. Please just talk to me and not counsel me. God and me have this!” He spent most days with his Grama Kathy who he loved dearly. He proudly said, “I am Grama’s favorite grandchild” laughing. They sat on her patio and talked for hours. She always was cooking for him and would pick him up to go get an ice cream. He would say, “Grama’s strong and going to outlive us all.” A.J also visited Grama Angie and loved all her pets in her house. He ate many meals with his mom when she came to McAllen. He talked daily to Jenna (his sister) and texted with Alaida (his sister). He loved his sisters. The three of them were “tight.” A.J. knew scripture well since he was a teenager. He was baptized in the Propst (close friends’) pool and trusted Pastor Scott Stripling. He referenced Pastor Scott often who spiritually guided him in his teen years. A.J. was an animal lover! When he moved to McAllen in 2025, he brought his 3 cats—Mady, Squirrely, Robie and his dog-Dexter. He told the owners of his home, who did not allow pets that these pets were his “emotional support pets” and he had to have them live with him. The owners relented!

A.J.’s disposition was so sweet and caring and he will be deeply missed. We will see you on the other side.

Faith is not a static faith, not just believing a doctrine or statement or a one-time confession.
Faithing is the active, ongoing, trusting, relational, obedient, confident, exercise of faith in God’s promises. Pastor Mark Coppins
