Alfredo G. Herrera, a beacon of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2026 with his daughters by his side, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 82. Born on a warm summer day, August 17th, 1943, in Ocanto, Wisconsin, to the late Abundio and Andrea Herrera, Alfredo's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of generosity and joy that touched everyone he met.
Alfredo's life was a testament to the power of love and family. Though he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lupita Herrera, his legacy of warmth and kindness lives on through his devoted daughters, Michelle Brookshire, married to Dr. Ralph H. Brookshire III, and Celina Garza, married to Andres Garza, III. Alfredo cherished his role as a father and was a guiding light in his daughters' lives, instilling in them the values of compassion and resilience.
He was a brother to Ramona Delgado, Roberto Herrera, and Alicia Hernandez, all of whom have passed before him, and is survived by Ricardo Herrera. Alfredo's laughter and wisdom will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Jesus Cantu (J.R.), Cassandra Contreras (married to Cordero Contreras), Alex Cuellar, Nick Cuellar, Seth Garza, and Shelby Garza, as well as his seven great-grandchildren who were the apples of his eye.
Alfredo's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly throughout his life as he embraced the challenges and rewards of being self-employed. His work was not just a means of livelihood, but a canvas on which he painted his passions and dreams.
A devout Christian, Alfredo lived by his faith, and it was this faith that illuminated his path and provided solace to those around him. He believed in the power of grace and practiced kindness as a daily devotion.
One of Alfredo's greatest joys was collecting arrowheads and rocks, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for history and the simple, enduring beauty of nature. Each piece in his collection told a story—a narrative of the earth and of the human spirit that resonated deeply with Alfredo.
Loving, generous, and funny are words that only begin to encapsulate the man that was Alfredo G. Herrera. His humor was a source of comfort and a reminder that life, despite its trials, is a journey to be embraced with a smile. Alfredo's generosity knew no bounds; he gave not just material gifts but parts of himself—his time, his wisdom, and his heart.
Today, we celebrate Alfredo not in mourning but with the joy he would have wanted. His life reminds us to cherish each moment, to love fiercely, and to laugh often. As we bid farewell to Alfredo, let us carry forward the light he has instilled in us. Let us share his love, mimic his generosity, and echo his laughter. And in doing so, we honor a life beautifully lived—a life that will continue to inspire and guide us in the days to come.
