McAllen ~ Andrew M. Reyes Jr., 88, of McAllen, Texas passed away peacefully at his home, and is with the Lord. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend to many. He was a great provider, and was known for his witty sense of humor, and heart-warming smile, thus his childhood, and adult nickname “Smiley”. He was loved by many.
Andy (Smiley) Reyes was born July 7, 1934 in Waco, Tx. He served in the USAF from 1954-1958, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a Radio Operator aboard the B-29 Superfortress Bomber, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for many years as Manager of Payless Shoes, was employed at Peace &ThortonLumber Co., and retired from JC Penney. He is a Veteran of the Armed Forces.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Cesaria G. (Josie) Reyes; 3 children; daughter Sandra Rhea Copson (Darrell) of Alamo, Tx., daughter Mary Bernadette Cheatham (David) of McAllen, Tx., and son Adrian Anthony Reyes of McAllen, Tx. (formerly Houston, Tx.), 6 Grandchildren: Jamie Amber Copson, William Andrew Cheatham, Darrell Stephen Copson, Felicia Ann Cheatham, Adriannah Lynn Reyes, David Allen Cheatham, and one Great Grandchild: Jonathan Evan Copson.
Sibling Survivors: Carmen Hernandez of Antioch, Calif., Flora Moran Mendoza of Waco, and nephew/ brother Rudy Reyes Olivarez of Brownsville. He was preceded in death by siblings; Jesse P. Reyes of Brownsville, Joe Reyes of San Antonio, Elisa Rodriguez of Austin, Sarah Reyes of Waco, Beatrice Olivarez of Rio Grande City, and Juanita (Janie) Lemos of Las Vegas, and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Visitations will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, August 1, 2022 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Celebration of life will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday, August, 2, 2022 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Interment will follow at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery. Rivera Funeral Homes in McAllen is handling arrangements.
