Armando Islas Obituary

McAllen ~ Armando Islas, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on March 22, 1935, in Reynosa, Mexico, Armando's journey led him to a life rich in love, accomplishment, and service.

Armando's legacy is one of devotion and joy. He was a loving husband to his wife, Maria Alicia Mancha Islas, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage filled with mutual respect and unwavering support. Together, they built a family foundation that stood the test of time. Armando was a guiding light to his children, Melinda Islas Perez (Cristobal) and Albert Islas. He was a source of wisdom and inspiration to his four grandchildren, Ashley Islas (John) Martinez, Kyria Islas, Daniel Anthony (Kaylee) Reza, and Thomas (Destiny) Reza, and his six great-grandchildren, Xienna, Nyla, John Jr., Amelia, Jonah, and Remi, who will carry his memory forward.

Armando was preceded in death by his beloved son, Armando Islas, Jr., his great-grandson baby Joah Reza, and his parents, Anacleto and Concepcion Islas. He is also. survived by brothers, Anacleto Jr. and Tomas Sr., his sister Mayita Guerra, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

For over 35 years, Armando served the community through his work with the U.S. Postal Service, where his reliability and commitment to excellence were well known.  He served in the U.S. Army for two years.  He has a passion for sports, particularly baseball and football, was a defining aspect of his life. He played minor league baseball with the city of McAllen, showcasing his talent and love for the game. His involvement in sports continued as he gave back to the community by coaching pony league and little league baseball teams, instilling in young players the values of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Those who knew Armando will remember him as a man who was not only analytical but also incredibly handy and intelligent.  His impact on the world was significant, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His unwavering integrity, his commitment to his family, and his contributions to his community have left an indelible mark.

As we bid farewell to Armando Islas, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, hard work, and the joy of shared experiences. His story does not end here, for his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved and the many lives he touched. Armando's memory will be treasured forever, a beacon of the values he held dear and the love he so freely gave.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 6:30 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Chapel service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Interment will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
