Charles Michael "Mike" Amyx passed into eternal rest on May 4, 2026, at his home in McAllen, Texas, at the age of 76.
Mike was the son of Charles B. Amyx and Beverly Jean Terry Amyx and stepson of Judy Salter Amyx. He was born on May 21, 1949 and grew up in McAllen where his father worked as a general contractor. He graduated from McAllen High School with the Class of 1968, attended Pan American College, and later joined the United States Army. He proudly served in Germany during the Vietnam War era.
Mike dedicated much of his career to the construction industry, working for many years as a lead superintendent for Cantu Construction. He played a key role in building numerous landmarks throughout McAllen and Edinburg, including Day Surgery at Renaissance, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, as well as many other commercial and residential projects.
Mike will be remembered as a caring and loyal friend, known for his warm smile and his down-to-earth nature. His hard work, leadership, and commitment to his craft helped shape the Rio Grande Valley community in ways that will benefit generations to come.
He is survived by his son, Charles Cody Amyx; his grandson, Charles Jaxson Amyx; his sister, Georgeanna Fischer; his brother, Mark Hall and his two nieces, Bailey Jones and Casey Knight.
Mike was known for his hardworking spirit, loyalty, kindness, and down-to-earth nature. Through his years in construction, he helped shape many parts of the Rio Grande Valley community, leaving behind a legacy that will continue serving others for generations. He was also a proud Army veteran who served his country honorably during the Vietnam War era. Most importantly, Mike will be remembered for the relationships he built and the lives he touched along the way.
Gathering of family and friends will be held at 9:00 am Tuesday, May 12, 2026 with a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 am at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd., McAllen. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Valley Memorial Gardens, 3605 N. Taylor Rd., Mission.
