Chriselda Briseño

Chriselda Galvan Briseno age 60, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 4, 2023, joining her daughters Jessica and Crystal Briseno.  Chriselda (Chris) was a loving, devoted and compassionate Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend to all. Chriselda is survived by her husband Jesus Briseño, son, Jesus Ruben Briseño Jr. (Brianda), daughter Jennifer Renee Martinez (Andrew), mother Christina Galvan, sister Linda Macias (Bonifacio), sister Irene Garza (Mike), sister Laura Morales (Richard), brother Santana (Skipper) Galvan (Ana), four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chriselda was proceeded in death by her daughters Crystal Briseño and Jessica Raquel Briseño; and, her father, Santana Galvan, Jr.

Chris was born in Brownsville, TX and raised in Port Isabel, TX with her four siblings. Her father, a shrimper, and her mother, a local school paraprofessional, raised her to be a strong and independent woman. Chris quickly rose to the top as an athlete at Port Isabel High School. She went on to pursue a physical education degree and graduated with her bachelors degree from The University Texas at Pan American. She then married her husband at the age of 21 and soon after started a beautiful family. Chris went on to dedicate nearly 25 years as a coach at Morris Middle School and is responsible for molding countless athletes throughout her tenure. After retiring in 2014, Chris dedicated her life to spending time with her family and taking care of loved ones. When she wasn’t in the stands supporting her children and grandchildren, Chris could be found traveling all over town and the state to show support for her family and friends. There wasn’t a birthday, graduation, or baby shower that Chris missed. Chris never ended a day spent with her family without saying how blessed she was.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Funeral services will be Monday, January 9, 2023 at the funeral home at 10:00 am. Interment will follow to Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in McAllen.
