Cynthia L. Vargas, "Pimpis"

Cynthia Laura Vargas, (best known as Pimpis), of McAllen, Texas, passed away on July 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She passed away 20 days prior to what would have been her 50th birthday. Cynthia was born in Brownfield, Texas on July 28, 1976 to Rogelio Vargas and Maria Elva Mascorro. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, friend and partner, all who will forever cherish her memory.

She touched the lives of many with her profound sense of humor, wit, and big heart. She was generous to a fault - her generosity knew no bounds. She was not only generous in life, but also in death as an organ donor.  She also had this uncanny ability to connect with just about anyone and was always there to lend a hand. She had a beautiful smile, and a care-free laugh. She loved working out, taking her fur babies out for walks, exploring the outdoors, going to the beach, and traveling the world. Cynthia had a strong faith in God and loved sharing with those that knew her, divine messages of hope. 

One of the things that made her so special was the incredible circle of friends she had. No matter the time of day, she was always invited to join them because everyone loved having her around. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, welcomed, and appreciated. Her warm heart, infectious smile, and charismatic spirit drew people to her wherever she went. She rarely said no to an adventure and was always ready at a moment's notice. Whether it was a simple outing or a special occasion, she brought joy, laughter, and light with her. Her presence made every gathering better, and the friendships she built were a true reflection of the love and kindness she shared so freely with everyone she met. Her memory will live on not only through the lives she touched, but also through the countless stories, smiles, and cherished moments shared by those who were blessed to call her a friend.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her father, Rogelio Vargas; her sister, Manuela Ignacia Vela (Nachis); and her brother, Rogelio Vargas, Jr. (Kelin). She is survived by her loving partner, Monica Perez and Eduardo Angel Silva; her mother, Maria Elva Mascorro; her sister, Mirna Elva Garza; her brother, Marcos Orlando Vargas; numerous nieces and nephews, countless extended family members, and her beloved fur babies, Shadow, McKenzie, Max, and Belle.

Cynthia worked for the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) from January 14, 2019 until her death. After starting as a Sergeant with the OAG, she was promoted to Lieutenant in the Pharr Field Office in February 2024. Prior to that, she worked for 4 years with the Texas Department of Health & Human Services as an Investigator VI, specializing in Health Care Fraud. She started her law enforcement career with the Hidalgo Police Department where she was employed for 13 years, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant Detective. 

A special thank you to all the healthcare staff from MD Anderson Center, Texas Oncology, and South Texas Health Systems who gave Cynthia care and treated her as a family member not just as a patient. While our hearts mourn her loss, we find solace in knowing that Cynthia’s spirit lives on through the love she instilled in all of us.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Cynthia L. Vargas during visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. A Liturgical Service in celebration of the life of Cynthia L. Vargas will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Eduardo Angel Silva, Oscar Garza III, Javier Garza Jr., Gael Eugenio Robles, Saul Martinez Jr., and Ruben Vela Jr.

Inurnment Services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
