Doroteo Peña, joined his heavenly Father on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on May 31, 1937, in Delmita, Texas. Doroteo lived a life of love, faith, and deep dedication to those around him.
A proud graduate of San Isidro High School, Class of 1957, Doroteo went on to earn a business degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. He married the love of his life, Ella A Peña, and together they shared 66 beautiful years of marriage - building not only a family, but a legacy rooted in warmth, service, and devotion.
Doroteo built a legacy of service through every role he held. He began working with San Isidro ISD, later served as manager for George Coats Oil Company, and eventually opened Delmita Mart with his wife Ella - a family-run store that became a beloved cornerstone of their hometown. His love for people and giving spirit were evident in every interaction.
After relocating to Roma, Texas, Doroteo took pride in managing the Starr County International Bridge, where his dedication continued to shine. Even in retirement, he found joy in helping others, working in advertising at Border Town Supermarkets alongside his grandchildren.
He was passionate about traveling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. More than anything, he loved gathering with family, but especially the little ones, who loved to call him "Welo Welo". He held a special place for each of them in his heart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ella A. Peña; his children Dalinda Pena (Amando Peña Jr.), Zelda Peña, and Doroteo Peña Jr. (Santa Elisa Pena); grandchildren Amando Peña III (Norma Peña), Liana Peña, Reynaldo Peña (Karina Pena), and Doroteo Peña III (Alyssa De La O); and great-grandchildren Alexia Lyann Pena, Mia Daniella Pena, Ella Valentina Pena, Isabella Celine Orengo, Jose Roberto Orengo Jr., Reynaldo Pena Jr., Lia Katalina Pena, and Emilia Karolina Pena; he is also survived by his sister Zulema Peña (Jacinto Montalvo ).
Doroteo was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Sarah Peña; his infant brother Adan; and siblings Idolina Pena, Marcela Pena (+) (Eliazar Pena †), and Hernan Pena (+) (Josie Pena †).
Doroteo’s legacy is one of quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering love. He leaves behind a family forever grateful for his wisdom, his stories, his laughter—and for the countless memories they’ll carry in their hearts always.
Visitations will be held from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen with a chapel service at 6:00 pm. Interment at 9:30 am Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Roselawn cemetery.
