Douglas Martinez Obituary

McAllen, Texas

Douglas H. Martinez, 76, went home with the Lord on October 4, 2020. Douglas was born on October 6, 1943 to the late Albino De Hoyos Martinez and Concepcion Martinez Herrera in Melvin, Texas. Doug was God’s faithful servant and worshipped daily with the Rosary and Divine Mercy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful servant to The Adoration of the Holy Eucharist at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.  He was a devout catholic.  Even, after his debilitating stroke Doug always said, “time for church.”

Doug was also a Marine and believed to the end that “Once a Marine Always a Marine”. Doug also loved to golf and BBQ but his favorite thing was to spend time with family and he dearly enjoyed an occasional beer with his children.  He was a joyful man who served others gladly and unselfishly.  He literally would give strangers the shirt off his back.  He was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend anyone could ever have. Everyone loved Doug. He will be dearly missed by everyone whose life he touched but most of all by his children, grandchildren, and wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion Herrera and Albino Martinez, his brother Hector Arturo Martinez, his niece Christina Marie Martinez, and his brother-in-law Jose Martinez.

Douglas H. Martinez is survived by his wife, Thelma Benavides, his daughters, Karis Del Bosque with spouse Steve Del Bosque, Mariel Hall with spouse Brian Hall, Liana Martinez, his step-son, Jose Luis Garza, his brother, Oscar Martinez with spouse Tina Martinez, his sisters, Norma Martinez, Irma Martinez, his granddaughters, Kaelyn Renee Bagley, Emma Rose Hall, Elise Niccole Del Bosque, and many of his nieces and nephews.
