Eduardo "Lalo" Valdez, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in McAllen, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on January 27, 1948, in Edinburg, Texas, to Maria Cruz Grimaldo Valdez and Agustin Valdez, Lalo was a man whose laughter and generous spirit brought joy to all who knew him.
Lalo spent his life cultivating relationships that would last a lifetime, both within his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship. Eduardo shared 55 years of marriage with his beloved spouse, Lidia Valdez, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His three daughters, Mary Roel and her spouse Fabiel Roel, Gladys Valdez and her spouse Edward Ross, and Yvette Valdez with Jay Galindo, will forever hold dear the lessons and laughter he imparted upon them.
His six grandchildren, Natali Flores, Najla Roel and her spouse Eduardo Larrazolo, Shayla Roel, Fabiel Roel, Nathaneal Sauseda, and Alyssa Sauseda, will miss their grandfather's wit and the time he invested in learning about their lives. Lalo's siblings, Estefana Ayala Valdez and Hector Valdez, will remember him as a brother who always lent a listening ear and a helping hand.
Lalo's interests were as warm and inviting as his personality. He was an avid participant in bowling, pool, and fishing, making many friends along the way. He loved to engage in conversations about everyday events and was a familiar face at the local corner store, where he met up with friends to chat and play lotto. Lalo also found joy in staying active, whether he was tending to his yard, washing his truck, or lending a hand to friends, he did it with a smile on his face.
Those who knew Lalo will remember him as a man who was funny, adventurous, and friendly. He had the rare ability to light up a room with his humor and to comfort others with his compassionate presence. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through trials and tribulations with a steady heart and unwavering resolve.
Lalo shared his gifts of laughter, love, and kindness with everyone he encountered. His life was a testament to the power of positivity and the importance of family and community.
While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, we take solace in the fact that his spirit will continue to live on through the memories he created with each of us.
