Elida Garza, 70, of Mission, Texas, went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on July 28, 1954, in Hoopeston, Illinois, Elida lived a life grounded in family, love, and faith. She was known for her nurturing spirit, her deep devotion to her family, and the joy she found in the simple things, like tending to her garden, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and always making sure special moments were captured in photos.

Elida was the true heart of her family. She gave of herself without hesitation, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness, strength, and unwavering love left an imprint on everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Horacio Garza, with whom she shared 54 beautiful years of marriage; her children, Marisela (Rafael) Castelan, Horacio (Elizabeth) Garza, Mabeli (Roberto) Hernandez, and Marlen (Juan Pablo) Garza; her brother, David Vasquez; 19 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a fourth great-grandchild on the way, whom she greatly anticipated meeting. Each of them brought light to her life and joy to her heart.

Elida was also a devoted pet mom to her beloved dogs, Lady and Doggy, who were always by her side and brought her comfort and companionship.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilaria Carrillo, and her brother, Nicolas Vasquez.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her through every blooming flower, every shared laugh, and every cherished photograph.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio and DHR Hospice for the compassion and care they provided during her final days.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home, 1813 N. Conway Ave., Mission. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 620 N. Dunlop Ave., Mission. Interment will follow at Garden of Angels Cemetery, 6701 Garden of Angels Blvd., Mission.
