Elsie Johnson Obituary

Elsie Louise McVey Johnson, formerly of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023, at The Comfort House in McAllen, Texas, due to heart disease. Born in Winfield, Iowa, on July 6, 1931, to Harold Joshua McVey and Hannah Bell Morse McVey.  She was preceded in death by her parent's; two sisters, Barbara Watson and Cora Jean Eastman; two brothers, Joshua McVey and Theodore (Ted) McVey.

Elsie was a loving wife to her late husband, Charles Curtis Johnson. Together they had two daughters, Mrs. David (Linda) Pedersen and Mrs. Craig (Sandy) Jepsen, and one Son, the late Randy Johnson. She was also a cherished grandmother to Mrs. Paul (Rachel) Walters and great-grandmother to Abigail & Allison Walters along with 1 step grandson Andrew Pedersen and 1 step granddaughter Angel Ruder, 3 step great grandsons & 1 step great granddaughter.  Along with her brother, Harry McVey and many nieces and nephews. 

Elsie lived a life characterized by her love for a challenge, humor, and desire to excel in what ever she did.  Elsie graduated from Browns Business College in Galesburg, Illinois.  She was employed by Blue Bell Manufacturers and Formfit Manufacturers.  Moving on in her career, Elsie dedicated her services to Gale Products, where she was very much appreciated for her hard work and commitment, even took over the first man only job.  Elsie's entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish her own business, Elsie's Style Shop, which was a popular ladies wear establishment in Abingdon Il.  Elsie was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a beautiful voice and was a regular member of the Sweet Adelines and Methodist Church Choir, where her soulful singing was loved by many. She also had a passion for playing cards of all kinds, mainly Bridge and poker, Bingo, plus enjoyed bowling and golf at Lake Bracken Illinois & Adobe Wells McAllen, TX.  Elsie especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs.

Elsie's memory will forever be treasured by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know her. Elsie's legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.  Although Elsie is no longer with us physically, her spirit continues to inspire, and her memories continue to bring joy. She will be greatly missed, but her impact will continue to be felt by the many lives she touched. We celebrate Elsie's life and honor her memory, remembering her not just for her accomplishments, but for the remarkable woman she was. Elsie Louise McVey Johnson, a life beautifully lived, a soul never to be forgotten.

Burial will be in the Avon Il Cemetary.
