Edinburg ~ Fernando Mendoza, known for his humor, kindness, and courage, passed away on November 29, 2023, in McAllen, Texas, following a battle with illness. Born on May 4, 1969, in Mexico, Fernando's faith in God and humor touched all who knew him throughout his 54 years of life. Fernando attended the University of Texas, Pan-American, where he pursued his higher education. His commitment to service was unwavering, as exemplified by his distinguished career in the US Army. Fernando honorably served his country through three consecutive tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and commanders. He was known by loved ones as someone who always spread joy with his caring and playful spirit. He loved his three children dearly and felt such pride in being their father. He treasured his family with all of his heart and cherished every relationship. His kindness and generosity, a trait that drew people to him, was evident in every interaction and in his selfless actions. He was always willing to help those who needed it. Fernando's legacy is not only one of service and valor but also of the joy and love he shared freely with others. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Fernando Mendoza's life was a testament to love and the grace of God. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
He is survived by his children: Meagan Nicole Mendoza, Nicholas Brendon Mendoza and Eliezer Abdiel Murillo Ruiz; his father: Santiago Mendoza; his siblings: Veronica Moreno, Javier Mendoza, Alma Flores, Americo Mendoza, Jose Luis Mendoza, Santiago Mendoza Jr and Fabian Mendoza.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Dagoberto Mendoza and his mother: Gregoria Mendoza.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Rivera at Hillcrest Chapel in Edinburg. A Chapel Service will be celebrated at 9:00 am Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Rivera at Hillcrest Chapel in Edinburg. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery in Mission. Military honors under the auspices of VFW post 8788 of McAllen.
