McAllen ~ Genoveva Jimenez Esquivel, a beacon of faith, love, and generosity, was called home to the Lord on October 23, 2023. Born on July 30, 1937, in the vibrant city of Reynosa, Mexico, Genoveva lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her community, and her faith.
In the year of our Lord 1960, Genoveva set down roots in McAllen, Texas, where she would reside for the next 60 plus years. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she served with humility and grace. Genoveva was a woman of deep faith. Her love for the Lord was radiant, illuminating the path for those around her. She was a living testament to the power of faith, her life a sermon of love and generosity that touched all who knew her.
Her love was not confined to her church but extended to her beloved family. Genoveva's heart held an abundance of love for her daughter, Sara Gonzalez, and her son, Ruben Sanchez. Her sister, Juanita Jimenez de Zamora, was not just a sibling but a confidante and friend. Her son-in-law, Leopoldo Rodriguez Reyes, and daughter-in-law, Natividad Sanchez, were cherished members of her family. Genoveva was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each one a testament to her enduring love. Her niece, Marissa Bernal Soto, along with numerous nieces and nephews, were the recipients of her boundless affection.
Genoveva's legacy is not just in the love she shared but in the lessons she taught. She taught us to be generous, to give without expecting anything in return. She taught us to love unconditionally, to embrace all with open arms. She taught us to have faith, to trust in the Lord even in times of adversity.
As we bid farewell to Genoveva Jimenez Esquivel, let us not mourn but celebrate a life well-lived. Let us remember her not with tears but with smiles, for she lived a life filled with love, faith, and generosity. Let us honor her memory by living as she did, with open hearts and unwavering faith. For in the words of the Good Book, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
