McAllen ~ Mr. Gil Villarreal, Sr., 86, entered eternal rest Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the McAllen Medical Center. Gil was born January 27, 1935 in McAllen, Texas to Eutimio Villarreal and Maria Zanaida (Monjaras) Villarreal. He was a life long resident of McAllen. He attended McAllen Schools and graduated from McHi. Gil proudly served his country with the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He worked at Levi Strauss Co. for more than 30 years. Gil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Otilia Villarreal; two brothers: Domingo and Dionicio Villarreal.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Mirna Villarreal, Luis and (Terrie) Villarreal, Tony and (Una) Villarreal, Gil Jr. and (Sylvia) Villarreal; sister-in-law: Bea Gutierrez; grandchildren: Christopher Villarreal, Lori Villarreal, John Villarreal, Vanessa Turner, Treann Herrera, Luis Villarreal Jr., and Tilly Villarreal; great-grandchildren: Nicolas Villarreal, Tristian Peterman, Trista Herrera, and Seamus Herrera; his grand dog "Charlie" and a special pet "Chula".
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. A limited viewing will take place on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd in McAllen from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:30 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Military honors will be given by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. www.riverafuneralhomes.net
