Glenford Guy Obituary

Dr. Glenford Peter Guy, affectionately known as Wally to his loved ones, passed away on October 17, 2024, in Mission, Texas. Born on July 10, 1951, in Kingston, Jamaica, Wally's journey led him to touch and improve countless lives through his dedication to medicine and his boundless love for his family.

Wally's pursuit of knowledge and his passion for helping others began with his extensive education. He was a proud alumnus of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he completed his medical degree. His commitment to women's health propelled him through residencies and fellowships, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Guy was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and held medical licenses in multiple states, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his practice.

For over four decades, Dr. Guy served as a beacon of hope and care for his patients. As a maternal and fetal medicine obstetrician-gynecologist in McAllen, TX, he served families at his own practice and was affiliated with esteemed medical facilities such as Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. His expertise and compassionate approach made him a cherished figure in the medical community.

Beyond the hospital walls, Wally's life was rich with interests and activities that reflected his vibrant spirit. He was an avid guitarist who enjoyed reggae and rock music. He was a culinary enthusiast who loved both cooking and savoring meals from different cultures. His love for travel and his interest in sports and history kept him engaged and ever-curious about the world around him.

Those who knew Wally would describe him as wise, loving, and intelligent. His wisdom was a guiding light for many, and his intelligence was a source of inspiration. His legacy is carried on by his beloved family, including his children Max, Ashley, and Iain; his sisters Marie Guy and Grace Phillips; his nieces Tasha Caballero, Simone Salkey-Valentine, Dominique Letts, and Alexis Salkey; and his great-nephews James Harris and Joseph Caballero, as well as his great-nieces Jada Harris and Jacqueline Caballero. The extended Cantu family, whom he loved dearly, will also hold his memory close to their hearts.

Wally was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Merle Campbell, his brother Erroll Phillips, and his cherished love, Elida Cantu. The void left by their absence was deeply felt, yet Wally's strength and love for his family never wavered.

Dr. Glenford Peter Guy's life was a testament to the power of compassion, the importance of family, and the enduring impact of a life dedicated to the service of others. As we remember Wally, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, passion, and love. His influence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will be treasured forever.
