Gloria Ybarra Obituary

McAllen ~ Gloria Gallegos Ybarra, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, in Harlingen, TX, at the age of 81. Born on August 6, 1942, in McAllen, TX, Gloria was the cherished daughter of Eustacio and Cecilia Gallegos. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend who lived a life full of passion and dedication.

Gloria's early years were spent in the warm embrace of her family in McAllen, where she attended McAllen High School. Her thirst for knowledge and commitment to education led her to Pan American University, where she graduated Cum Laude. Gloria's academic achievements were just the beginning of what would become a lifelong commitment to education and the betterment of others.

After university, Gloria embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher, shaping young minds at Sharyland High School before moving to Mercedes High School. Her students remembered her not only for her expertise but also for her ability to inspire and encourage them to reach their full potential. Gloria's passion for education was matched only by her involvement in various associations, where she advocated for the importance of lifelong learning and community engagement.

Gloria's interests extended beyond the classroom. She had a profound love for animals, which was evident to all who knew her. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she found joy in cooking and baking for her loved ones. Gloria's green thumb brought life to her garden, and her home was a testament to her love for working on her yard. Shopping was another favorite pastime, but nothing compared to the precious moments she spent with her granddaughter, who was the apple of her eye.

Family was the cornerstone of Gloria's life. She was the loving wife of Hilario Ybarra, and together they built a life filled with happiness and mutual respect. Gloria was a devoted mother to Amanda Flores. She was a sister who shared an unbreakable bond with Hope Torres, Rose Brown, Rueben Gallegos, Raul Gallegos, Blanca Canales, and Daniel Gallegos. Her love and memories will be cherished by them, as well as the legacy of her siblings who preceded her in death, Eustacio (Ted) Gallegos and Evangelina Gallegos. The loss of her children, Cynthia Torres and Rick Edward Torres, was a profound sorrow, but their memory remained a guiding light in her life.

Gloria's spirit was characterized by her loving nature, kindness, and spirited demeanor. She approached life with a smile that could light up a room and a warmth that made everyone feel at home. Her legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.

As we bid farewell to Gloria Gallegos Ybarra, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will continue to inspire us. Gloria's life was a journey of love, laughter, and learning, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.

A private service will be held to honor Gloria's life, where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate the remarkable woman she was. Her light will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched, and her story will be told for generations to come.
