Hector Gomez, Jr., 63, of Pharr, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in McAllen, Texas.
Born on December 2, 1962, in Lockney, Texas, Hector was preceded in death by his father, Hector Gomez, and is survived by his mother, Maria Angelita Alcantar. Hector was a hardworking man who spent many years working in the Sears Tire Shop Department and throughout his life worked in many different trades. He was known for his strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to do whatever was needed to provide and help others.
Beyond his work, Hector will be remembered for the simple things that brought him joy and for the love he had for his family. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. In his younger years, he was an all-star catcher, and later in life he continued his love of the game by playing softball. He also enjoyed watching The Price Is Right, a pastime that brought him comfort and familiarity over the years.
Hector leaves behind many cherished memories with his mother, Maria Angelita Alcantar; his siblings, Olivia Sanchez, Oscar Gomez, Alma Rosa Garces, Adrian Luna, Erasmo "Eddie" Luna, and Esteban Luna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly and carry his memory with them always.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Hector’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen.
