Irma Gonzalez Mata

McAllen ~ Irma Gonzalez Mata, 72, entered into eternal rest and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 12, 2026. Born on October 5, 1953, in Madisonville, Texas, Irma lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, cherished sister, and loyal friend whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Teodoro "Lolo" Gonzalez and San Juanita Gonzalez.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Mata; her children, Robert "Bobby" Mata, Jr., Michael Anthony Mata, and Krystal Beatriz Mata; and her treasured grandchildren, Brianna Marie Mata, Dominique Kiara Mata, Madison Krystianna Mata, D'Amado Anthony Mata, Nathaniel Martinez, and Cali Isla Mata. She is also survived by her siblings, Teodoro "Ted" Gonzalez, Irene Mohun, Iris Montemayor, Noe Gonzalez, and Isa Cade, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Irma dedicated much of her life to serving her church and community. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters and proudly supported the mission of Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers. Alongside her husband, Robert, she was also an active participant in the McAllen Jaycees, where they enjoyed serving their community and building lifelong friendships. Her compassion, strength, and servant's heart were evident in all that she did. She found great joy in spending time with her family, celebrating life's milestones, and creating lasting memories with those she loved most.

Irma's legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and selfless service. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she now rests in the eternal peace of God's loving embrace.

A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd., McAllen, Texas 78504. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1 pm at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
