Obituary

McAllen ~ Jaime C. Zavala, a courageous and spirited man, passed away on August 22, 2023, in Edinburg, Texas after an arduous battle with cancer. Born in McAllen, Texas, to parents Cristobal Zavala and Bertha Belmares on September 28, 1964, Jaime was known for his loving nature and a heart as big as his home state.

Jaime graduated from McAllen Memorial High School in 1983, and his sense of duty and love for his country led him to serve in the United States Marines. Throughout his service, Jaime demonstrated the same courage and spirit that he carried with him throughout his life. His sense of duty was a testament to his character, and his time in the Marines was a source of immense pride.

Jaime had a zest for life that was contagious. He was a passionate wrestling enthusiast, enjoyed fishing and a master at barbecuing. Jaime's love for music was well-known, and he could often be found with a comic book in hand or playing with his beloved pet dog, Ozzy. He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, rarely missing a game, and his enthusiasm was an integral part of his personality.

Jaime is survived by his son, James Zavala, and his grandson, James Christopher Jr. Parents, Cristobal Zavala (Enedina) and Bertha Benavidez (predeceased Gabriel). His siblings, Dina Garza Duran (David), Denis B. Sanchez (Arimon Jr.), Jimmy Benavidez (Olivia), Debra Reyes (Juan Carlos), Chris Zavala (predeceased Michelle), and Eddie Zavala, will remember Jaime as a caring and kind brother. Jaime also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Danielle, Sabrina, Aaliyah, Deandrea (Adrian), Nailah, Ari (Lori), Dylan, Christian, and Christopher. His great-nieces Aria, Trinity, Catalina, Clara, and great-nephews Devin, Eythan, and Michael, will remember him dearly.

Jaime's life was a testament to his courageous spirit and loving nature. His laughter, his love for life, and his spirited personality touched everyone who knew him. Jaime will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday, August 24, 2023 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
