Jean Marie Hinthorne

McAllen ~ Jean Marie (née Mendenhall) Hinthorne, 79, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Grand Terrace Nursing And Rehabilitation Center in McAllen, TX. She was born on Tuesday, February 8, 1944 in Los Angeles, California the daughter of Fred S. and Juanita Marie (née Casad) Mendenhall. She married James R. Hinthorne in 1964 in Oceanside, CA. 

Jean graduated in 1961 from Escondido High School in Escondido, CA. She graduated in 1965 from the University of California in Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for many years for Central WAshington University.  

Throughout her life there were a several places she called home. She lived in San Marcos, CA from 1949 to 1964; Santa Barbara, Goleta, Solvang and Newhall, CA from 1964 to 1980; Ellensburg, WA from 1980 to 2001; Silver City, New Mexico from 2001 to 2006 and Mission, Pharr and McAllen from 2007 to 2023 settling in McAllen for the past 16 years. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church of McAllen, Texas. Jean and her husband enjoyed RVing for 40 years and square dancing for 30 years. 

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Lamont Mendenhall and Richard Mendenhall. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years: James R. Hinthorne of McAllen; her children: Kathleen Marie Satnik of Ellensburg, WA and Michael James Hinthorne of Ferndale, WA; her siblings: Esther Batterton, Pamela Homan, Donald Mendenhall, Robert King and Karien Amirahsani and one grandchild.
