Jesus Jr. Prieto, born on May 15, 1951, in McAllen, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 73. Known for his dedication to family, faith, and community service, Jesus remained a beloved part of McAllen throughout his life.
Growing up in McAllen, Jesus exhibited remarkable athletic talents during his years at McAllen High School. His involvement in multiple sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and track and field, highlighted his determination and sportsmanship. Jesus deeply valued his time as part of the McHigh Bulldogs and kept these bonds alive by regularly participating in monthly reunions with the 1971 class.
After completing high school, Jesus attended the University of Texas Pan-American. His path led him to Houston, where he joined the Houston Fire Department, demonstrating his commitment to serving others. In the early 1980s, he transitioned to a long-standing career with the United States Postal Service, proudly delivering mail and connecting with the community for over 20 years.
Renowned for his warmth and loyalty, Jesus was a steadfast friend who gave generously of himself. As a loving father and grandfather, he was a cornerstone of support for his family. Although he was predeceased by his parents, Heriberta Gonzalez and Jesús Prieto, and brothers, Humberto and Francisco Gonzalez, Jesus's family has remained a source of strength and joy.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Erica C. Prieto Belmares (Nestor), and son, Jesse Prieto. His grand children Nicholas D. Martin, Desmond A. Martin, Emma C. Garcia, and great-granddaughter Rya J. Martin. His loving sisters, Darlene Prieto-Salazar, Margarita Berlanga, and Elida Garcia (Manuel), also carry forward his legacy. The memory of his predeceased son, David Lee Prieto, is cherished alongside the impact Jesus made on countless lives.
Throughout his life, Jesus was guided by a moderate but consistent Christian faith, which he expressed through kindness and a heart open to others. As we reflect on Jesus Jr. Prieto’s journey, we remember a man of immense heart, integrity, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and loyalty that continues to touch all who knew him.
Funeral Services are as follows: Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen: Viewing Monday 11/25 4-9pm, Holy Rosary at 6pm, Celebration of Life at 7pm. Service Tuesday 11/26 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Internment at 11am at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
