McAllen ~ Jose (Joe) L. Cazares, at the age of 90, went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2022. Jose was born on August 25, 1932 in Pharr, Texas.
After graduating from PSJA High School in 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. Upon return, he attended Pan American University and began his career serving in the U.S. Army and worked as an administrator for the U.S. Army Reserve Center in McAllen for over 30 years. Upon retirement, he taught in the public school system and opened Cazares Driving Schools.
Mr. Cazares is survived by 5 children, Dr. Jose (Joey) L. Cazares, Jr. (Arlene), Aida L. Cazares Martinez (Larry), David E. Cazares, Luis A. Cazares and Zina M. Cazares, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ramiro Cazares and sister, Elvia Guinn. He will reunite with his wife, Maria Esther Cazares and his parents, Eduardo and Emma Cazares. Mr. Cazares will be remembered by family and friends as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Viewing will be held at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen, TX on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with a Holy Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:00 am. Entombment with full Military Honors will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
