Obituary

José María Casas, conocido cariñosamente como "Chema", falleció  el 1 de abril de 2023 en su casa rodeado de su amada familia. Nació el 29 de abril de 1943 en Tayahua, Zacatecas, México.

A José María le sobreviven su esposa de 57 años de casados, Teodora  "Lola" Ríos y sus hijos; Maria Alicia (Rogelio) Hinojosa, Argelia (Abraham) Martinez, Jose Arnulfo Casas, Rogelio (Ada) Casas, Minerva  Casas, Maria Guadalupe Casas, Daniel Casas y Emmanuel Casas.  José María tuvo 15 nietos 3 bisnietos.

Desde muy joven, José María tuvo una mentalidad afilada y un espíritu emprendedor.  Trabajó muy duro para dar todo a su familia.  Un punto culminante de su carrera fue construir y poseer su propia compañía de bloques de cemento en Miguel Alemán, Tamaulipas. Administró y operó el negocio él mismo durante muchos años.

José María será recordado por su fuerte ética de trabajo,  su valiente espíritu de lucha y su amor por la familia.

Para celebrar la vida de José María, el velorio se llevará a cabo el martes 4 de abril a las 4 p.m. en  Rivera Funeral Home en Mission, Texas, seguido de un rosario a las 7 p.m.  El servicio fúnebre se llevará a cabo el 5 de abril a las 10 a.m., seguido del entierro en el cementerio Santa Fe Celestial Gardens en Mission Texas.

La familia desea agradecer al Dr. Maximiliano E. Hernández MD por todos los años de cuidado y apoyo.  Un agradecimiento especial a sus cuidadores personales, Omar, Mayra, Marta y Blanca.

Jose Maria Casas affectionately known as “Chema”passed away April 1, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 29, 1943, in Tayahua, Zacatecas, Mexico.

Jose Maria is survived by his wife of 57 years of marriage, Teodora “Lola” Rios and children; Maria Alicia (Rogelio) Hinojosa, Argelia (Abraham) Martinez, Jose Arnulfo Casas, Rogelio (Ada) Casas, Minerva Casas, Maria Guadalupe Casas, Daniel Casas and Emmanuel Casas.  Jose Maria had 15 loving grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

From a young age, Jose Maria had a keen mind and entrepreneurial spirit.  He worked very hard to give everything to his family.  A highlight of his career was building and owning his own cinder block company in Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas. He managed and operated the business himself for many years.

Jose Maria will be remembered for his strong work ethic, courageous fighting spirit and his love for family.

To celebrate Jose Maria’s life, visitation will be held Tuesday April 4th at 4pm at Rivera Funeral Home in Mission, Texas followed by a rosary at 7pm.  Funeral service will be held April 5th at 10am followed by burial at Santa Fe Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Mission Texas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maximiliano E. Hernandez MD for all the years of care and support.  Special thanks to his personal caregivers, Omar, Mayra, Marta and Blanca.
