Juan Roberto Montes, 44,entered eternal rest on Friday, December 25, 2020. Juan Roberto was a man of God who served whole-heartedly.  His kindness, generosity, humbleness and love were not only a reflection of Christ himself, but a gift from above that he nurtured and shared with everyone he encountered. He dedicated his life for the One he loved so dearly, his beloved family and friends, McAllen ISD, Francisca Alvarez Elementary and his much-treasured students.

Juan Roberto was a proud product of McAllen ISD. He attended Crockett Elementary, Lamar Junior High and graduated from McAllen High School in1995.  He attended Texas A & M and The University of Texas Pan American where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and two Masters degrees: one in Curriculum and Instruction and another in Educational Leadership. He first embraced teaching at Sam Houston Elementary, served Woodrow Wilson Elementary and James Bonham Elementary as Assistant Principal, and was currently proudly serving and leading the Francisca Alvarez Family as Principal and Head of School.

Our loving son, brother, uncle, and friend is preceded in death by his father, Juan Antonio Montes, his brother Homar Montes and his grandmother Eugenia Leal Bailey.

Juan Roberto will be lovingly remembered by his sweet mother Maria De Los Angeles Montes; sister Patricia Montes, brothers Jose Antonio Montes (Angela Uribe),Gerardo Montes (Joanna Montes), Ociel A. Salazar, and Enrique Cano. Pride and joy nieces and nephews, Ociel Salazar Jr., Omar Salazar, Ashley Salazar, Alyssa Montes, and Anthony Montes. He will also be forever missed by his extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M., with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen, TX. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, January 4th at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Sorrows in McAllen. A procession around Alvarez Elementary will be held at 12:30 P.M. Burial services will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Juan Roberto Montes will forever be missed by all who loved him so much.  May he rest in peace and fly with the angels.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside the building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.
