Kathleen I Powell

Kathleen I Powell, age 84 passed away on November 7, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on February 3, 1939 to George and Catherine Erickson and raised in Chicago, with her eleven brothers and sisters. Kathleen often shared childhood memories and cherished time with her siblings. According to her, there was never a dull moment growing up.

Kathleen married Simm A Powell in 1958 and they had two children, Simm Jr. and Terra. After relocating across the US with the Coast Guard, they set down roots and raised their family in Los Fresnos, Texas. She retired after many years working in the Los Fresnos School District.

Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was quick to laugh, a spirited storyteller and unshakeable in her convictions. She loved to read, shop, fish and most of all spoil her great grandchildren.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Simm A Powell, parents George and Catherine Erickson, sisters Mary Erickson, Madolyn Martin and Louise Ferrante and brothers George Erickson and Dennis Erickson.

She is survived by her son Simm (Robin) Powell, daughter Terra (Jim) Van Gorkom, grandchildren Kelsey (Henry) Hahn, James Van Gorkom, Simm Powell III and Edward Powell, great grandchildren Audrey  and Henry Hahn. Brothers and sisters Lilliam Horstmann, Patricia Woods, Tom (Aurelia) Erickson, Bryan (Beverly) Erickson, Rose (Tony) Baldassano, Vince (Elaine) Erickson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, November 30th at Rivera Funeral Home 1901 Pecan Blvd, McAllen, TX from 5-7 pm.

Funeral services will be 11 am on Friday, December 1st at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Road, Mission, TX.
