Lidia Chavez Obituary

Lidia Garcia de Chavez, 95, of McAllen passed away on February 9,2021 in McAllen. Lidia was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Antonio Garcia and Dolores Valenzuela on August 10,1925. She married Pedro Chavez Alfaro in 1948 in Juarez, Chihuahua. Lidia is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Chavez Alfaro; her daughter, Esther Josefina Chavez de Casas; her brothers, Manuel Garcia and Jose Garcia; and her Parents, Antonio and Dolores Garcia.

Lidia is survived by her children and their spouse: Lidia and Juan Garcia, Maria Elena and Felipe Reyes, and Hector Casas; grandchildren: Dolores Teresa Casas de Rodriguez (Armando), Juan Manuel Garcia III (Krystal), Hector Casas Jr. (Yadira), Anna Lidia Garcia, Philip Rey Reyes, Karina Krystal Sanchez (Allen), and Barbie Lyn Gonzalez (Chris); great-grandchildren: Ivanna Teresa Rodriguez, Armando Iván Rodriguez, Giovanna Josephine Rodriguez, Iván Aquiles Rodriguez, Triana Renee Garcia, Marlissa Lynnae Garcia, Jordan Michelle Garcia, Johnathan Michael Garcia, Jai Paul Garcia, Christopher Joseph Hartman, Nicholas Jack Hartman, and Zoë Lyn Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, February 21, 2021 with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:30 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 22, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.
