Hidalgo ~ Lucio Gonzalez, born on September 19, 1947, in McAllen, Texas, passed away on May 24, 2026, in McAllen, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
He was a proud United States Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era, and he carried the values of duty, honor, and perseverance throughout his life. His commitment to his country was reflected not only in his military service but also in the quiet strength and dignity with which he lived each day. He was also a devoted member of VFW Post 8788 Honor Guards, where he stood alongside fellow veterans in recognition of service and sacrifice, honoring others with the same respect and integrity that defined his own life.
Lucio was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his wife, Raquel Gonzalez; his children, Fernando Gonzalez, Linda Gonzalez, Monica Carrillo (Jose), Francisco Islas (Lisa), and Roxanna Gonzalez (Nicolas); his sister, San Juanita Garza (Janie); and seven grandchildren who brought him great pride and happiness. His love for his family was steadfast and unconditional, and he will be remembered for the warmth, guidance, and support he gave so generously to those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Maria De La Luz Gonzalez; his son, Hector L. Gonzalez; and his siblings, Herminia “Minnie” Gamboa, Elisa Johnston, Hector Gonzalez, Jr., and Felipe “Flipper” Gonzalez. Their memories remained close to his heart, and he carried their love with him throughout his life.
Those who knew Lucio will remember a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and enduring loyalty. He valued family, friendship, and service, and he met life with resilience and grace. His presence brought comfort and stability to those around him, and his memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of honor and devotion that will be treasured by his family and friends for years to come.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen, with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A chapel service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Interment will follow 2:00 pm at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Lucio Gonzalez will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was one of service, family devotion, and enduring honor, and his memory will remain a blessing to those he leaves behind.
