Luis Salas, 78, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in McAllen, Texas. He was born on August 13, 1947 to the late Maximino Salas and Maria H. Salas. He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Maximino Salas, Jr., Blasi Yracheta, Esperanza Ramirez, Teresa Salas and Oralia Garcia.
Luis is survived by his wife of 52 years: Blanca A Salas; Children:Sylvia Salas and Luis (Aleida) Salas, Jr.; Grandchildren: Nicholas Salas, Caleb J. Salas and Lyliana Salas; Siblings: Dahlia (Jose) Muniz, Jose (Alicia) Salas , Susie Carrillo, and Martin (Isa) Salas.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970.
He was the kind of man whose love could be felt in everything he did. Gentle, caring, and full of life, he had a way of making everyone around him smile with his playful humor and silly spirit. He was a true football fan, proudly cheering on his Dallas Cowboys with excitement and loyalty.
He found joy in working with his hands, spending time outdoors building, fixing, and caring for his yard, always making things better with quiet dedication. But more than anything, his heart belonged to his family. He was so incredibly proud of his children, and his love only grew stronger with his three grandchildren, who meant the world to him.
He treasured the simplest moments—sharing laughter, eating popcorn, and spoiling his grandkids every chance he got. Those memories, filled with warmth and love, will forever be held close by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Chapel service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at 11:00 am to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
