Maria De La Luz Zamora Obituary

McAllen ~ Maria de la Luz Zamora, age 87 years passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7,  2021.  She was born in San Luis Potosi on December 15, 1933 to Anastacio and Felipa Belmares.

Mary (Luzita) is survived by her children Aaron (Maria G.), Dina (Santos), Daniel (Luisa), Margarita (Jose), Martha, Patricia, Armando (Brenda) and David.

Luzita was preceded in death by her brothers Sotero Belmares and Faustino Belmares as well as her grandson Aaron Daniel Palacios and great granddaughter Madison Elva Pena. She is also survived by her sisters Berta Benavidez, Margarita Molina, Libby Lopez, Rosalinda Galvan, and 28 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Her early childhood years were spent in Donna, TX until the family moved to McAllen when she was 8 years old. She returned to Mexico (Saltillo) to attend Bible School (La Buena Tierra) and successfully finished the program. In 1957, she married Jose Zamora (Pastor) and they started their married life together in Jame, Coahuila. Together they did missionary work under the authority and blessing of La Buena Tierra Iglesia de Dios in Saltillo, Coahuila.

Luzita moved back to McAllen in 1966 to continue the Lord’s work and to raise her family. She was a member of Iglesia Evangelica Mundial (Taylor Christian Institute) since 1948 and part of the women’s group named “Las Dorcas”. Her employers were Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Nelson and Melba’s School of Dance (over 30 years).

She will always be remembered for her unselfish character. It was not uncommon for her to help feed and clothe total strangers who reminded her of her own early struggles.

Luzita always reminded her children to live by the golden rule of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She stressed the importance to “Love the Lord God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength” as well.
