Maria Gonzalez Obituary

Our beloved mother, Maria Trinidad González (formally Márquez), 89, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020. Trine, lovingly called by family and friends, was born on October 17, 1930 at Rancho El Ranero, Municipio de Jesús María, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the daughter of Luis Márquez and Maria Trinidad Garcia de Márquez and the seventh of 11 children. When Trine was 20 years old, she met our late father, Edmundo González, from Rio Grande City, Texas. He was in Jalisco working for the USDA as an agent inspecting and vaccinating cattle. Trine was introduced to Edmundo while he was inspecting the cattle on her father’s ranch. Apparently, it was love at first sight for each of them because a year later they were married. This was the start of a happy marriage which lasted over 57 years and produced five children.

Our father passed away in 2009, but we were blessed to have our mother with us for 11 more years. Trine is survived by her five children; Edmundo Jr. (Setsuko), Eduardo (Anna Marie), Patricia Ann, Nora Dilia, and Jorge Luis (Sonia).

She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Christopher González, Stephen González, Pamela Garza, Alisa Garza, and Sofia González. Trine was also blessed to be survived by three great grandchildren; Joshua González, Luke González, and Emma González. Our mother’s last surviving sibling is Francisco Márquez.

Our mother touched the lives of all who knew her. She had a sweet, hospitable nature and a warm smile. Her home was always open to family and friends, and this included her children’s friends. We teasingly called our home the “Hotel González” because relatives or friends were often spending nights at our home where they felt welcome. No one who stepped inside our house ever left without our mom offering them a meal or coffee with pan dulce. Trine’s life was dedicated to her family and her home and she took great pride in both. She also took pride in her beautiful ‘jardín,’ in which she enjoyed spending time caring for her many plants and birds. Her children and grandchildren and nieces and nephews will always remember Trine as a loving and caring woman who they were blessed to have in their lives.

The González family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for your presence, your prayers, your love, and support.
