Maria Guadalupe Barrera, 77, entered eternal rest Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Heights of Alamo Nursing Facility in Alamo, Texas. Maria was born December 11, 1943 in Monterey, Mexico to Eusebio and Josefina (Cisneros) Aguilar. She lived in McAllen for most of her life. Maria worked at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Guadalupanas for many years. Maria enjoyed making the "Best" tamales, loved to cook, and loved family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren. She truly lived life to its fullest.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; Her Husband- Juan R. Barrera Sr.
She is survived by her children; Juan Roberto Barrera Jr. and his wife Cindy, Veronica Contreras and her husband Martin; Two brothers- Eduardo Aguilar and Johnny Aguilar; Six grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd in McAllen from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow to Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
