Maria Isabel Cantu

Maria Isabel Cantu was born in Pharr, TX to Jose O. Garza and Petra Garcia on June 6th, 1970 and was called home to be with the Lord on September 24th, 2021. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and Christian. 

At the young age of 13 Maria Isabel accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and devoted her life to Him. She truly had a servant's heart and always helped wherever she could. She was a youth leader, President of the Women's Ministry, Vice-President of the Women's Network, head usher and Sunday school teacher. She loved decorating on special occasions, coordinating dramas for the church, and working with the youth. She also hosted a segment on IPNV's online radio station called Candlelight of Hope, alongside her husband. 

She is preceded in death by her sister, Rosaura Dolores Garza and her father, Jose O. Garza.

Surviving to cherish her precious memories is her husband of 36 years, Leonel Cantu, and their 3 children: Leonel (Sylvia), Jordan Matthew (Samantha) and Sarah Katherine; eight grandchildren: Brandon, Bryan, Brayden, Braysen, Isabella, Arabella, Brenden, and Giancarlo; her mother: Petra Garza; brother Joe Garza Jr and niece, Heather Ann Garza. She also leaves behind many brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as several Cantu nieces and nephews.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Iglesia Pentecostes Nueva Vida, 211 W. Mile 3 Rd., Palmhurst, TX 78573. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 4, 2021 at Iglesia Pentecostes Nueva Vida in Palmhurst. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
