Maria Olivia Garza, 86, of Mission, Texas, entered eternal rest on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 5, 1939, in Mission, Texas, Maria was the daughter of the late Jose E. Martinez and Felecitas Leal. She was preceded in death by her son, Gumecindo Garza; and her sisters, Maria Elva Salinas and Maria Acuzena Billman.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Guillermo Garza; her children, Thelma (James) Olivarez, Jose Guillermo (Lupita) Garza, Nelda (Mike) Garrett, and Hilda (Albert) Cantu; her sister, Maria Alicia Martinez; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and watching future generations grow. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family values that will continue to live on through those she held dear. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the love she shared throughout her life. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in Mission. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow to Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Olivarez II, Joseph Garza, Robert Vega, Alberto Cantu, Dylon Villarreal, and Nick Lopez.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Garza, William Garrett, James Olivarez III, Joseph Garza Jr. and Braydon Vega.
