María de la Luz López de Cantú, conocida con cariño como Luz por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla, emprendió su último baile hacia el atardecer el 8 de abril de 2025. Nacida el 13 de julio de 1957 en la vibrante ciudad de San Luis Potosí, México, Luz llevó siempre el espíritu de su tierra natal en el corazón, mientras recorría el camino de su vida hasta McAllen, Texas, donde dio su último suspiro en paz.

La vida de Luz fue un testimonio de la alegría y el amor que compartió con todos aquellos que tocó. Fue un faro de felicidad, iluminando las vidas de su amado esposo, Miguel A. Cantú, y de sus cinco hijos: Severo, Rafael, Jorge, Cristóbal y Miguel A. Cantú. Su risa y sus historias seguirán resonando con cariño en la memoria de sus numerosos nietos, quienes fueron la luz de sus ojos y los receptores de su amor sin límites.

Durante muchos años, Luz sirvió con dedicación inquebrantable en el Departamento de Servicios de Apoyo en Nutrición Infantil del Distrito Escolar de Hidalgo, donde no solo fue una empleada ejemplar, sino también una amiga entrañable y mentora. Su naturaleza amigable y su espíritu vivaz transformaron a compañeros de trabajo en amigos cercanos y dejaron una huella imborrable en la comunidad que tanto amó.

Los intereses de Luz pintaban el retrato de una mujer que celebraba la vida con cada fibra de su ser. Amaba bailar, una pasión que nos enseñó la importancia de moverse al ritmo de la música de la vida con gracia y alegría. En el santuario de su jardín, Luz cultivaba belleza y la compartía generosamente con vecinos y amigos, su risa entrelazándose con el susurro de las hojas y el canto de los pájaros.

Era una narradora nata, y cada historia que contaba estaba impregnada de su particular mezcla de ingenio y sabiduría. Sentarse con Luz era embarcarse en un viaje a un mundo donde cada relato brillaba con humor y enseñanzas de vida, dejando a los oyentes con el espíritu elevado y el corazón lleno.

Born on July 13, 1957, in the vibrant city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Luz carried the spirit of her homeland in her heart as she made her life’s journey to McAllen, Texas, where she took her last peaceful breath.

Luz's life was a testament to the joy and love she shared with everyone she touched. She was a beacon of happiness, lighting up the lives of her beloved husband, Miguel A. Cantu, and their five sons: Severo, Rafael, Jorge, Cristobal, and Miguel A. Cantu. Her laughter and tales will be lovingly echoed by her numerous grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye and the recipients of her boundless love.

For years, Luz served with unwavering dedication at the Hidalgo ISD in Support Services Child Nutrition, where she was not only an employee but a cherished friend and mentor. Her friendly nature and spirited presence turned colleagues into close friends and left an indelible mark on the community she so dearly loved.

Luz's interests painted the portrait of a woman who celebrated life with every fiber of her being. She loved dancing, a passion that taught us all the importance of moving to the rhythm of life's music with grace and joy. In the sanctuary of her garden, Luz cultivated beauty and shared it generously with neighbors and friends, her laughter mingling with the rustle of leaves and the chorus of birds.

She was a born storyteller, each tale infused with her unique blend of wit and wisdom. To sit with Luz was to journey into a world where every story shimmered with life's humor and lessons, leaving listeners with lifted spirits and full hearts.

Luz was the embodiment of three simple, yet powerful words: spirited, friendly, funny. These words, like seeds, were planted in every interaction, growing into lasting memories in the hearts of those she encountered. Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd, in McAllen.
