Mario I. Marez, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. He was born on December 28, 1949, to Arturo and Encarnacion Marez in McAllen, Texas. Mario led a remarkable life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched.

Mario is survived by his devoted wife, Mary C. Marez, with whom he shared35 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they created countless cherished memories through their travels and quality time spent with family and friends. He was an adoring father to his precious daughter, Marissa Marez, and his heart daughters, Damaris Olivarez, Krista Zamora, and Stephanie Zamora. Mario’s spirit will remain alive in his grandchildren, Bernadette Rose McConnell, Liam McConnell, and his heart grandson, Dylan Zamora.

Mario was the proud brother of Gloria Marez of Edinburg, Texas; Antonia Marez of McAllen, Texas; Bertha Clingman (Joe) of Keller, Texas; Viola Gold (Jeff) of Dallas, Texas; Rolando Marez (Lisa) of Dallas, Texas; Diana Bratton (Shane) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Arturo Marez (Amy) of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were fortunate to know him.

A United States Army veteran, Mario served his country with honor and pride. His commitment to service extended into his community, where he was known for his dedication, heart, and sense of humor. He had a profound passion for his car business, pouring his energy into every endeavor he undertook. Mario Marez was also a seasoned entrepreneur, whose dynamic career spanned multiple industries, demonstrating his versatility and keen business acumen. As a part owner of Marez Auto Sales, Inc., he played a pivotal role in shaping the success of the dealership, establishing a reputation for excellence and customer satisfaction in the automotive market.

Beyond Marez Auto Sales, Mario’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to own several other ventures, including Marez Vehicles, Inc., T&M Vehicle Marketing LLC, and ARME Mechanic and Body Shop. His multi-faceted approach to business not only showcased his capability to identify and seize opportunities but also reflected his commitment to providing comprehensive services within the automotive sector.

In addition to his work in auto sales and marketing, Mario established a bookkeeping and income tax business. His ability to navigate the complexities of various business operations speaks to his deep understanding of financial management and his dedication to fostering growth in each of his ventures.

Beyond his entrepreneurial skills, Mario possessed a remarkable talent for building and handyman work. His hands-on approach allowed him to bring his visions to life, whether crafting innovative solutions for his businesses or tackling home improvement projects. His resourcefulness and practical skills made him not only a successful business owner but also a reliable problem-solver in any setting.

Mario Marez’s extensive experience, entrepreneurial success, and practical talents exemplify he was a man dedicated to excellence and innovation in every aspect of his professional life. His contributions to the automotive industry and local community underscore his status as a respected figure in the business landscape.

Furthermore, Mario Marez was a devoted man of God whose heart overflowed with love for the Lord. With unwavering faith and a passionate spirit, he dedicated his life to preaching the Word of Christ to anyone willing to listen. Mario’s commitment to sharing the Gospel was evident in his daily interactions, where he embodied the teachings of Jesus through kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for others.

Deeply inspired by the ministry of Bishop Michael Smith, Mario held a profound admiration for his church leader, seeing him as both a mentor and a guiding light in his spiritual journey. The teachings and leadership of Bishop Smith profoundly influenced Mario, fueling his desire to live out his faith authentically and boldly.

Mario found immense joy and support within his church family at Faith Fellowship Church. He cherished the bonds formed with fellow congregants and found strength in their collective worship and fellowship. His love for them was evident in the way he served, offered encouragement, and shared heartfelt prayers. To Mario, being part of this vibrant community was more than just membership; it was a family united in faith, striving together to grow closer to God and to spread His message of hope and love.

In every endeavor, Mario Marez exemplified what it meant to be a true disciple of Christ—an individual whose life reflected a deep reverence for God, a commitment to spreading His Word, and a heart that desired to build up and uplift those around him.

Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Encarnacion Marez, and his brother, Richard Marez.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the love and support shown to them during this difficult time. As we gather to celebrate Mario’s life, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and basking in the Glory of God’s Kingdom.

The honor of serving as pallbearers include: Christopher Chavez, Edward Chavez, Pablo Echavarria III, Dante Garcia, Jeremia Garcia, Rolando Marez, and Dylan Zamora.

Mario’s memory will live on through his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. We take comfort in knowing that you are with God, dear Mario—your love and spirit will always remain with us.
 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
