Marta Sofia Ortega

Marta Sofia Ortega, 59, is now rejoicing in the house of the Lord. On Friday October 17, 2025 Marta passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Sunday, September 18, 1966 in Hargill, Texas, the daughter of Nemorio and Silvestra (Medina) Morado. 

She is survived by her husband: Jose Luis Fuentes Valdez; children: Laura and her husband Oscar A. Hernandez, Sofia and her husband Gabe Morales, Anyssa I. Ortega, and Itzel M. Fuentes; brother: Erasmo Morado; sister: Maria Elena Morado; grandchildren: Vianey N. Hernandez, Matthew A. Hernandez and Brianna A. Hernandez and Zoey C. Valli.

Marta was a long time resident of McAllen. She was a member of San Juan Diego Catholic Church in McAllen. She not only attended services, she was an ACTS Retreat Team Member, CCD teacher and office volunteer at the church. Marta was a Coordinator for the American Red Cross -Pharr Office and a member of the Disaster Relief Team. She was owner and founder of Sofia's Cakes & More. She was also treasurer for McAllen Memorial High School Choir in 2021 - 2022 and volunteer at Roosevelt Elementary School.

She was the best wife, mother, G-ma, sister, suegris/suegrecita ever.               

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025 with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Rivera Funeral Home, 1901 Pecan Blvd., McAllen. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at San Juan Diego Church, 3408 Idela Ave, McAllen. Interment will follow at 11:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Roselawn Cemetery, 1201 S. Main St., McAllen.

Family requests for anyone attending the services to please wear white to honor Marta.

Marta Sofia Ortega, de 59 años, está gozando en la casa del Señor. El viernes 17 de octubre de 2025, Marta falleció tranquilamente en su casa rodeada de su querida familia. Nació el domingo 18 de septiembre de 1966 en Hargill, Texas, hija de Nemorio y Silvestra (Medina) Morado.

Le sobreviven su esposo, Jose Luis Fuentes Valdez; sus hijas, Laura, Sofia, Anyssa I. e Itzel M.; sus yernos Oscar A. Hernández y Gabe Morales; sus hermanos, Erasmo y Maria Elena Morado; y sus nietos, Vianey N., Matthew A., Brianna A. Hernandez y Zoey C. Valli.

Marta fue residente de McAllen durante mucho tiempo. Era miembro de la iglesia católica San Juan Diego en McAllen. No solo asistía a los servicios religiosos, sino que también era miembro del equipo de retiros ACTS, maestra de CCD y voluntaria en la oficina de la iglesia. Marta era coordinadora de la oficina de Pharr de la Cruz Roja Americana y miembro del equipo de ayuda en casos de desastre. Era propietaria y fundadora de Sofia's Cakes & More. También fue tesorera del coro de McAllen Memorial High School en 2021-2022 y voluntaria en Roosevelt Elementary School.

Era la mejor esposa, madre, G-ma, hermana, suegros/suegrecita que jamás haya existido. 

El sepelio tendrá lugar el jueves 23 de octubre de 2025, de 3:00 a 9:00 pm, con un rosario a las 7:00 pm en la funeraria, Rivera Funeral Home, situada en 1901 Pecan Blvd., McAllen. La misa de cuerpo presente se celebrará a las 10:00 am el viernes 24 de octubre de 2025 en la iglesia San Juan Diego, 3408 Idela Ave, McAllen. El cortejo partirá a las 11:00 am el viernes 24 de octubre de 2025 al cementerio Roselawn, 1201 S. Main St., McAllen.

La familia pide que todos los asistentes a los servicios vistan de blanco para honrar a Marta.
