Martha Luna Obituary

Martha Christine Luna, age 70, gracefully entered the kingdom of God at her home on Saturday, January 13th, 2024. Born on July 4th, 1953, she was the beloved daughter of the late Albert M. and Beatrice V. Gonzales of Tularosa, New Mexico.

Martha's educational journey included attending St. Francis De Paula Catholic School and graduating from Tularosa High School in 1971. She furthered her studies at New Mexico State University and achieved her Bachelors in Dietetics & Nutrition from The University of Texas Pan American in 1990. For three decades, Martha served as a dedicated Registered & Licensed Dietitian, making a profound impact in schools, nursing homes, the New Mexico Department of Public Health, hospitals, and dialysis units.

A pillar of her community and a devout Catholic, Martha was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows in McAllen, Texas. Her involvement extended to organizations such as The Catholic Daughters, Teaching CCD, leading Marriage Enrichment, and serving on Acts Retreats. Known for her infectious smile, Martha generously shared her time, talents, and resources.

Martha's passions were as diverse as her talents. She delighted in cooking, baking, and dancing. Her nimble fingers created beautiful crocheted pieces, and she found immense joy in supporting her children and grandchildren in their pursuits. Martha's home was a hub for joyous gatherings, where she hosted unforgettable parties for friends and family. Her love for travel took her to various states and countries in Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Canada.

In 1976, Martha met the love of her life, Jessie G. Luna, at New Mexico State University. They were united in marriage in 1977 at St. Francis De Paula Church in Tularosa, New Mexico. Martha stood by her husband's side for 16 years as an Army Officer's wife, accompanying him during deployments in Germany, South Korea, and various posts across the United States.

Survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Jessie G. Luna, Martha leaves behind a legacy through her children: Alicia L. Luna-Goodwin and husband Jacob Goodwin of Amarillo, Texas, and Jessie A. Luna of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Gonzales-Boltz and husband Steven Boltz of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Anna M. Gonzales of Milton, Washington, her cherished granddaughter, Brookelynn A.
