Mr. Martin Mendez Jr. entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 20, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home in McAllen. Mr. Mendez was born February 20, 1931 in San Isidro, Starr County, Texas to Martin and Guadalupe (Olivarez) Mendez. Mr. Mendez proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a long time resident of McAllen. Martin loved the outdoor activities, fishing, hunting. He enjoyed meeting people and talking to people. Martin's family were hesitant to take him anywhere because he was always going to find a relative where ever they took him. LOL
One of the greatest moment for Martin was when he found out he was going to be a grandpa. He was at stores trying baby strollers he needed to chose the one that looked BEST for him. From that moment his life changed. It was about his grand kids.  
Martin Mendez truly lived life to its fullest. He will forever be loved and remembered by his family and those that came to know him. 

Mr Mendez was preceded in death by his parents; His first wife Ida Mendez; His sisters- Julia M. Villarreal, Alicia M. Fuentes, Angelina M. Cruz; His brother Roberto Mendez.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife- Rosa Linda Mendez; His sons- David I.(Jayney) Rodriguez, Roy M. Mendez; loving granddaughter- Alyssa M.Rodriguez, loving Grandson-Kyle Martin Rodriguez; His brother-Guadalupe (Guadalupe) Mendez; Martin's in Laws- Pablo Pedraza, Luz Pedraza, Arturo Pedraza, Rojelio Pedraza, Raul(Noemi) Pedraza, Raquel (Ken) Briggs, Dora Ulrich.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with social distancing orders, all necessary restrictions will be observed in order to protect the health and safety of those in attendance. Wear face coverings while inside building. Continue to practice social distancing while inside the funeral home chapel. We continue to ask that those at risk or those not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our obituary page.

Viewing for Martin will be Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Rivera Funeral Home,1901 Pecan Blvd from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recital of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 9:30 AM at the funeral home chapel. Committal services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans
