McAllen ~ Mateo Araguz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in McAllen, Texas, at the age of 94.
Born on September 21, 1930, in McAllen, Mateo lived a life defined by love for his family, dedication to his country, and service to his community. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, an experience he held close to his heart throughout his life. After his military service, Mateo went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. Postal Service before retiring.
Mateo was the proud father of three children: Yesenia Araguz (Cris), Jose Araguz, and Aaron Araguz. He was also a beloved grandfather to Robyn, Ramona, Jaime, Abraham, and Genesis Araguz, and a cherished great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he found immense joy in spending time with them and taking memorable family vacations together.
A man of deep faith, Mateo was a lifelong Catholic. He was also a founding member and Honor Guard of VFW Post 8788, where he continued to honor and support fellow veterans with great pride and dignity.
Services to celebrate Mateo’s life will begin with a public viewing on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen, with a Rosary at 8:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery in Mission, Texas.
Mateo’s legacy of strength, humility, and unwavering love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
